Zooming through COVID-19

Thank G-d Coronavirus didn’t come 25 years ago. As I sit and watch my kids in “class” on another Zoom call, this is the thought that goes through my head.

With technology today, we can be in many places at one time. I can listen to a Yaakov Shwekey concert in New York from my living room, and daven Kabbalat Shabbat with Shlomo Katz before the sun goes down. My wife can do a workout with seven other ladies on a live Zoom call.

I always knew live video was the future of the world, but never could I have envisioned it being this critical to our daily lives. It has truly helped us deal with this plague.

As the new legislation keeps coming, it is becoming less and less possible to have everyone the bride and groom want on their special day. A professional livestream may just “save the day” and enable friends and family to be as close as possible. I recently watched a beautiful wedding I had been invited to but canceled on from my living room, and the quality was good enough to feel as close as I could be.

My wife and I livestreamed our baby’s Brit Milah this past year. Many have reached out to us and expressed their gratitude towards us for including them in our Simcha. Another added bonus is that we have the entire process filmed and saved for us forever (from far enough away, don’t worry).

Family workouts on Skype. Friends video calls every day. We can get through this, with a little help from our technology.
